RMS Connection Wizard
Previous  Top  Next

The connection wizard is a tool within RMS which holds the shared data path for each machine. The shared data path directs each machine back to the server so that it may access the data held within the SQL Server which resides on the Server machine including all Form Letters, history and upgrades created in the system.

Please be sure to read the important notes at the end of this topic before continuing

To run the connection wizard successfully please do the following;
1. Go to start up - All programs - RMS for Windows - Connection Wizard. You should see the screen below;

If you are running RMS for the first time (meaning that you have never used RMS) choose 'Create a blank RMS Database', Your Property Name, number of workstations and Registration No must be entered exactly as shown on the Registration details page received with your installation kit.
The password (see notes at the end of this topic) would be either left BLANK or 'emu'

Ensure that the above information is correct for the machine that you are running it on.

E.G. If you are running the connection wizard on the server machine the above settings are generally correct.

BUT, If you are running the connection wizard from a workstation then please read the following;
SQL Server:    This should be the Servers name, please select from the drop down arrow.
User Name:    To be left (unless your technician has changed this setting in SQL)
Password:    Would be either 'emu' or shold be left BLANK - See notes below
Shared Data Path:    This should be set to a UNC Style path pointing back to the RMSWIN folder on the server (see UNC Path document for further explanation)
Command Time Out:    This should be left at 500.
Database Name:    If the above information is correct the database name should appear automatically.

2. Click once on 'Finish'. If all the settings were correct you should receive the below message;

cwsuccessmessage

3. Click once on 'OK'. You are now ready to use RMS.

Important Notes.
The Password field within the Connection Wizard is realted to the password programmed into the SQL Server (MSDE) and is not your Windows or RMS password.
By Default (if you have never run RMS before) this password would be left BLANK, however, if you have run RMS on any computer that accesses RMS data from this SQL Server the password would be then set to 'emu' (three lowercase letters).
If you are utilising an SQL server that has beeen set up by an IT Professional this password may be set to something else.
You will know when tthe password is incorrect by an error box stating login failed for user 'sa'
