RMS V8 Installation Procedures:

Please ensure that you have read and understand all information on this page prior to moving through the installation steps.

Installations must only be undertaken between 9am and 5pm EST weekdays as the support staff you may require are not available outside these hours.

The below instructions assume that you do not currently run an SQL server. Sites with existing SQL Servers are encouraged to discuss the intended installation with RMS prior to attempting installation.

·   It is recommended that you exit all running applications and disable virus scanners before installing RMS.
·   These instructions are designed for either standalone systems or standard Peer-2-Peer networks. If you are intending to use a Terminal Services or Citrix environment please contact RMS Support for these installation instructions.
·   RMS requires your system to be set to English Australia, New Zealand or United Kingdom regional settings.
·   You will need to be logged onto your system using administration privileges.
·   The RMS database reside on an SQL server.
·   SQL needs to be installed onto the file server only, to house the RMS Database.
·   The server may or may not be a computer which will run the RMS program itself.

Operating System   Compatible SQL Version
XP (home & professional)   MSDE & SQL Express
Vista (all versions)   SQL Express

RMS provides MSDE and SQL Express versions of SQL – these versions allow 5 concurrent connections to the SQL server.
SQL 2000 and 2005 are not provided by RMS – these versions have no limit to the concurrent connections to the SQL server.
·   The server must be running in application or mixed authentication mode and should be installed as the default instance (i.e. No instance name).
·   RMS recommends that you set the default sa password to emu.
·   Care should be taken to ensure that the server will accept remote tcp/ip connections from workstations (off by default in 2005 – to do this use the SQL surface area configuration utility)
